| Is the unaffordability myth holding us back from real progress with universal social security? On Thursday, 4 December 2025, at 11:30 AM GMT, join us for the launch of Beyond the unaffordability myth: a pragmatic roadmap to universal social security, a new paper from Development Pathways and Act Church of Sweden. The paper presents an alternative approach to estimating the cost of building universal social security systems, grounded in feasible benefit levels, and will show how universal social security is financially feasible for almost all low- and middle-income countries to implement with their own resources. We will also introduce an interactive costing tool that will allow anyone to calculate the costs of introducing universal social security systems across 118 countries. |
Organisers:
Development Pathways, Act Svenska Kyrkan, member of the ACT Alliance (Act Church of Sweden), Arab Reform Initiative, Human Rights Watch
