In a rapidly changing world shaped by conflict and war, economic uncertainty, technological transformations, and accelerating climate pressures, the role of social protection systems has never been more critical. Across the Arab region, protracted conflicts, forced displacement, and fragile recovery processes continue to place immense strain on societies and institutions. At the same time, countries are navigating profound economic and labour market shifts driven by digitalization and the transition toward more sustainable, low-carbon economies.

In this context, building inclusive, adaptive, and sustainably financed social protection systems is essential to advancing resilience, equity, and long-term development.

Building on the momentum of previous contributions, we are pleased to launch the 2026 call for blog article submissions for Blog TADAMON, an open platform dedicated to fostering dialogue, sharing insights, and advancing knowledge on social protection across the Arab region.

We invite researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and activists to contribute original blog articles that explore emerging trends, policy innovations, and critical reflections on social protection in light of today’s complex regional realities.

We are particularly interested in contributions that engage with the following themes:

1. Social Protection in Contexts of Conflict, War, and the Humanitarian–Peace–Development Nexus

How can social protection systems operate effectively in fragile and conflict-affected settings? What role can they play in bridging humanitarian response, peacebuilding efforts, and long-term development strategies?

We welcome contributions that examine adaptive and shock-responsive social protection in fragile and conflict-affected settings in the Arab Region, including efforts to link humanitarian aid with national social assistance systems. Articles may also explore how social protection can support recovery, reconstruction, social cohesion, and State legitimacy in contexts affected by violence and displacement.

2. Digitalization and the Future of Social Protection

Digital transformation is reshaping both labour markets and the design and delivery of social protection systems in the region. How can digital tools expand coverage, improve efficiency, and strengthen accountability, while avoiding new forms of exclusion or inequality?

Submissions may explore digital ID systems, integrated social registries, cash transfer platforms, and data governance, as well as the implications of platform economies, automation, and shifting employment patterns for social protection coverage and adequacy, among other dimensions.

3. Social Protection amid Decarbonization, Climate Change, and Just Transitions

As countries in the Arab region confront the impacts of climate change and pursue transitions toward low-carbon economies, what role can social protection play in ensuring that these transitions are just and inclusive?

We encourage articles that examine how climate policies and decarbonization efforts are reshaping labour markets, livelihoods, and economic structures. Contributions may explore climate-responsive social protection, support for workers and communities affected by these transitions, and policy measures that align environmental sustainability with social equity.

Cross-Cutting Considerations

Across all themes, we particularly encourage contributions that:

  • Address the needs of vulnerable and marginalized groups, including women, youth, informal workers, refugees, and people with disabilities
  • Engage with labour market transformations and their implications for inclusion, informality, and access to social protection
  • Offer national or comparative regional perspectives with a focus on countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, and GCC countries
  • Provide concrete policy recommendations and actionable insights

We also welcome submissions that engage with other timely and critical social protection issues relevant to the region.
