October 2021. Following a request from the CFDT and CGT trade unions, a number of employees of French organisations in Tunisia went on strike. On Thursday October 7, several slogans (including a reprise of the song “Paroles, paroles”) resounded in the courtyard of the French Institute of Tunisia (IFT). The movement aimed to denounce the “insufficient compensation for the salary decline” that had resulted from the “implementation of tax deduction at source [TDS] from 2022”, according to the website of the union “CFDT-Foreign Affairs”.
