“In an attempt to calm the situation, the public prosecutor’s office authorised several arrests, while public safety was being brought under control. Then the court proceeded to issue reduced sentences.” This was the pretext presented to Inkyfada by the public prosecution, explaining the wave of arbitrary arrests that followed the protest in the winter of 2021. Throughout this article, testimonies, infographics, as well as judicial and juridical interpretations, are employed to illustrate the public prosecution’s exertion of legal authority in order to generalise imprisonment policies.
