
On 16 June 2025 International Domestic Workers Day, 12 Kenyan and international civil society organizations and trade unions are calling on authorities in Saudi Arabia to take concrete measures to grant domestic workers equal protection under the labour law and end their de facto segregation from Saudi society. In a letter addressed to the Saudi authorities, the group calls on the government to fully abolish the kafala system, which binds migrant workers to a specific employer throughout their residence in Saudi Arabia leading to exploitation and abuse.
