The present issue reviews social protection reforms undertaken in the Arab States during the first half of 2025. Several countries advanced measures to expand coverage, strengthen delivery systems, update social registries and promote sustainable financing mechanisms to enhance equity and overall system effectiveness. Key developments include expanded access to health services in Algeria and Jordan; the introduction of new cash transfer programmes in Mauritania and Somalia; financing reforms and tax measures in Morocco and Oman; and progress towards the establishment of unemployment insurance in Tunisia.
