Within the framework of the project “Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in the Labour Market in the Arab Region”, implemented by ESCWA in partnership with the International Labour Organization since 2020, ESCWA prepared country profile reports on employment policies for persons with disabilities, covering 19 Arab countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, the State of Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
These reports analyse the State’s constitution, institutional framework, labour laws and legislation related to various aspects of the lives of persons with disabilities such as education, health care, employment, and the supportive environment. They conclude with recommendations aimed at encouraging stakeholders to ensure the right of persons with disabilities to work in equal and adequate conditions and to prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability.
