Lebanon’s subsidy system, once praised as a vital social safety net, has become ineffective and untenable, particularly in light of the ongoing economic crisis. While the purpose of subsidizing essential goods (food, fuel, and medicine), was intended as a form of support for socio-economically vulnerable populations, they often failed to reach the targeted group while straining government budgets.
